Etat of the Ottomans Capiculy troops around 1679-80 by Luigi Ferdinando Marsigli (Marsiglie L.F. L’Etat Militaire de l’Empire Ottoman. Hague, 1732). His work is both in French & Italian. ere is a French
variant.
Marsiglie’s estimation of the Capiculy troops is speculative, because
he didn’t know the strength of the technical troops. For example, cannoniers (topeys or topchy) were not less then 2,000 in 52 orta (companies). Engineers (lyagimgy)
were around 4-5,000 in 17 orta.
