Trophied Spanish colours ab. 1651

Haags Historisch Museum presents two paints by Bartholomeus van Bassen on its page in FB (link). They show a seccion of the Dutch Staten-Generaal in 1651 after a death of the stadhouder Willem II. Pay attention on the numerous trophied Spanish colours & standards. Unfortunatelly they didn't survived to our days.

Siege of Stenay 1654

Siege of Stenay in 1654 by A. Gilbet
(Gallica; see the source below)
The small town Stenay is situatated on the left bank of the river Meusse in Lorraine. In 1654 it was held by a combined Spanish-Lothringen garrison (under command of Governor of Stenay Colonel Colbrand & Governor of citadele of Stenay Nicolas Bouton comte de Chamilly) of around 1.400 men:

French siege army consisted of two Cops, one under Lieutenant General Governor of Sedan Abraham de Fabert d'Esternay (see Wiki on him: link) & the other under Marechal de France Charles de Mouchy d'Hocquincourt (see Wiki on him: link). The composition of the troops & dates of their arrival were the following:

Spanish cuirassiers in Flandres, 1641

Nice painting by Jacob Martsen de Jonge presents the Spanish garrison of Venlo leaving the town. It includes 2 troops of the Spanish horses. Both are cuirassiers in 3/4 armour & closed helmets. It seems to me that they didn't have lances or carbines/harquebuses, only pistols

Siege of Julich 1621-22 by P. Snayers

Michal "Kadrinazi" placed a fine paint by Paulus von Hillegaert in his blog
http://kadrinazi.blogspot.com/2011/05/malarze-znani-i-nieznani-cz-xxi.html
My favorite painter is Peeter Snayers. His paints are always full of details. And one of the most favorite one is the Siege of Julich 1621-22. It presents details of the Spanish fortifications around the city & a cavalry cornet.
