The Dutch fortress Menin was besieged
by French on 18 May 1744 & capitulated on the terms of free passage on 14
June 1744.
French army under King
Louis XV (nominal commander marshal Noailles) composed of 62 battalions &
84 squadrons (Pajol, vol. III, p. 333). It was divided into 2 parts:

the 2nd squadron of Hesse-Philipsthal Cavalry.
