Unter-officer & private of Przebendowski Dragoons, ar. 1732 Drawing by B. Gembarzewski |
Created in 1717 from King’s
Arqebusiers (chief FM Flemming, commanding officer GM Brandt) but got the
lowest seniority among new dragoon regiments. Original troop was raised in 1683
(?) as Jan III Sobeski’s Guard Arqebusiers.
First chief of Dragoons was Przebendowski
Ernest Krzysztof, general-major, podskarbi wielki koronny; colonel – I. Born.
Since 1743 new chief was GM Bukowski, 1754 – Lubomirski ks. podstoli litewski, 1755
- Potocki kasztelanie bracławski, starosta trąbowelski, s. 1761 gen. lejtn.; 1764 - Potocki Joachim, podczaszy W. Ks. Lit. ; s. 1.VII.1774 -
Sułkowski Ant. gen. lejtn. wojew. Gnieźnieński.
During the War of Polish
Succession the regiment probably acted under command of colonel Mirowitcki. The
image at the left presents Przebendowski Dragoons around 1732 in the uniform of
the Saxon pattern of 1729. It was introduced in the Polish Crown army around
1730 & was evidently in use till 1764.
In 1776 the regiment was converted
into 7th Foot regiment (regiment pieczy Potockiego).
