  1. Hello Gromoboy! This has nothing with this post to do. But I wonder if you could post any information there is about the battle of Hummelshof/Sagnitz 1702?

    1. Sagnitz/Hummlshof is an easy topic. I prefer to search for more challenging battles like Pechory or Kasaritz -)

    2. Ok. In that case do you know where to find info about how the battle took place? Because I can't find any place where there's info about the battle. So if you don't want to write how the battle took place maybe you could share a website or a book where there is info about the battle?

    3. Gustav, you right about Sagnitz. When I looked at my sources, I realized that the most of them are in Russian. So, they are unknown outside Russia. The best of them is a work by Estonian historian Palli published in 1966. He used Sjogren's Forsvarskriget i Lifland 1701 och 1702 from Swedish side. Do you have Rosen's Bidrag...? Does it contain any about Sagnitz

    4. No I'm afraid. I haven't got access to any archives at all. The only sources I have available are books, most of them published in the 21th and some the late 20th century. I haven't got real documents either since I'm 17 only! :) So maybe you could publish what the Russian sources say about the battle (in English ofcourse)?

    5. Try to find this book:

Rosen Carl, Bidrag till kännedom om de händelser, som närmast föregingo svenska stormaktsväldets fall

    6. Are you sure there's information about the battle there? I think I might buy it. It looks very interesting.

    7. As far as I know, the Rosen's research is the best one from Swedish side. It covers the whole GNW. Bengt Nilsson may correct me.

  2. Gromoboy, in the future, is there any chance you might do a post on the ottoman sipahis of the russo-turkish wars (there's almost nothing on their dress and armour during the 18th century)?

    1. Miguel, there are only a few mentions (descriptions) of the 18 c. Ottoman cavalry in Russian sources. And they do not give any details

    2. Russian ambassador Levashev was with Grand Vizir's army in 1769 campaign (arrested, of course). He described Turkish cavalry with shields & "naruchy" (I don't know how it in English, see them here:

They were armed with sabres, various knifes, long & short pistols & pikes
