On 13 December of 1684 Ernst August of Brunswick-Luneburg agreed to provide a 2,400 strong Corps on Venetian service. It consisted of 3 regiments under command of Oberst Hermann Philipp von Ohr (Gohr) as a Brigadier (actual strength on 12 Feb. 1685):

- Oberst H.P. von Oher, 860
Each regiment was of 10 coys. In 1685 they participated in the siege of Koron (23 June - 11 August 1685, link) & the battle of Kalamata (14 Sept. 1685, link). Hanoverians stayed on Venetian service till 1688 & their further development I'll describe soon.

Ghiron Francis marquis de Villa, a Venetian commander in Candia 1665-68

Ghiron Francis marquis de Villa was a son of Guido de Villa, a general on French service who was killed by a cannon-ball in 1648 at the siege of Cremona. Gorton's General Biographical Dictionary (1838) stated that Ghiron Francis de Villa was "one of the most outstanding military officers of the XVII c." (link). I didn't find any mentions where & when he distinguished in any military action before Candia. As far as I understood his success career on Sabaudian service was in a memory of his father, Guido de Villa. He served for many years to Savoy family & in 1648 was General-Lieutenant (second-in-command) in Duke of Modena's French army besieged Spanish-held Cremona. His funeral in the February of 1649 was detailed described in a printed manuscript (link).Ghiron Francis (or Francesco) achieved Marescial di Campo rank on Savoy service after his father's death. Then he became Generale della Cavalleria & General della'Infanteria. In 1664 thanks to Cardinal Mazarini's protection he transferred in the same rank to Venetian service & was sent to Candia. He commanded the garrison in 1665-68 & was several times wounded in Turkish assaults. In 1668 he left Venetian service "in consequence of intrigues he had suffered".

Venetian army under Marquise de Ville sent to Candia, 1665

In 1665 Venetia sent a 10,000-strong army under a Frenchman General di Infanterie Ghiron Francesco Marquis de Ville to reinforce the garrison of Candia. d'Alquie's Memories... composed a detailed list of Venetian troops. The army composed of 20 Foot (Freisheim, Frigeri, Nobis, Sagramosa, Negron Bavarias, Doglione, Ersan, Arborio, Pierre Anthoine, Negron Franches, Marrone, Furieti, Restori, Spada, Conti, Zacco, de la Motte, d'Ancalm, Bianco, Proculo) regiments, 12 Frei-companies, 2 regiments of Cuirassiers (Sforza & Corradini), 2 regiments of Albanian Stradioti (Varsama & Rados) & 2 companies of Dragoons (Carbonieri & La Forest). There were a lot of French volunteers in files. The full strength was 10,032 men, effective - 8588.

A friend of mine sent me a link to a Greek site with Venetian Battle order in the battle of Argos, then I found it in a good resolution on a site of Italian digitized libraries (see above). Ottoman troops under Bechir Pasha made an assault to Argos & Monemvasia in Morea, but met with Venetians under General Steinau at a place called Manara, not far from Argos. After a fierce battle Ottomans were defeated & retreated. According to the BO Steinau had 25 battalions & 12 squadrons, totaled ab. 7-8,000 with 15 cannons.

Hessen-Darmstadt regiment on Venetian service, Feb-March 1689

In the end of 1687 Hessen-Darmstadt agreed to provide a regiment of 1,000 men on Venetian service for a campaign in Morea. It consisted of 10 coys, incl. one of grenadiers. Regimental commander was obrist Georg of Hessen-Darnstadt, later the FM on Austrian service & General-Capitan on a Spanish one. The regiment was dressed in light-grey (unbleached) coats with yellow cuffs. The treaty was signed on 15 December 1687, & the troops marched from Darmstadt in May of 1688. In February of 1689 the regiment numbered only 358 men in a camp at Navarin (mainly due to the disease).

P.S. first I mistook & wrote that cuffs were light-blue. The right one is yellow.

Swiss regiments on Venetian service 1716-1719

Grenadiers & ensign of Muller regiment, 1716-18
NYPL
In 1716 Venetian republic hired 3 regiments of Swiss & Grison infantry for continuing war with Turkey: Sallis, Muller, Stockar. Regiments consisted of 10 coys each. They were dressed in blue coats with red facings. Regiments slightly changed each other in collars & cuffs. Their grenadiers wore bear caps. In 1719 when the war ended the regiments were transferred to Spanish service.
Vinkhuzen's collection in NYPL includes a set of 4 drawings of these troops. Their source is unknown. I am not sure that they are 100% accurate.

Venetian garrison of Corfu, 5 July 1716 (Ottoman siege during the war of 1714-18)

While I was searching for the materials about Saxon GL Johann Mathias von der Schulenburg & his service during GNW I discovered very interesting materials about Ottoman-Venetian war of 1714-18. Schulenburg joined Venetian service in 1716 & distinguished during the Ottoman siege of Corfu (28 July - 22 August 1716)
