Wismar was held by a Swedish garrison under command of faltmarskalklojtnanten (GFML) Gustav Wrangel af Adinal, general-governor of Swedish Pomerania & commandant of Wismar (since 4 Aug. 1674). It was about 2,500 with 45 cannons.
- Upplands Foot, ofverste graf Gustaf Carlson, 8 coys (72 officers & NCOs, 51 corporals, 32 drummers, 788 soldiers)
- Jamtlands Foot, ofverstelojtnant Lars Axel Morner af Tuna, 4 coys (36 officers & NCOs, 24 corporals, 12 drummers, 329 soldiers)
- city militia, ofverste Gustaf Tungel, 5 coys (ab. 1000)
- detached reitars & dragoons, ofverste Henneman, ab. 200
Danish troops approached Wismar on 15 October 1675. The siege army was about 13,500 men with 44 (41) siege cannons & 6 mortars under command of King Christian V. According to Vaupel, the Danish BO was the following:
Danes made a general assault on the morning of 13 Dec. 1675. In spite of bad weather with rain & snow, they took Wismar’s Citadel after a fierce battle. It made Swedes to capitulate on the terms of free passage to Stralsund
The commander at Wismar was Gustaf Wrangel af Adinal (1630-1688), not Carl Gustaf Wrangel af Salmis (1613-1676).
